James Lawrence
Documenting real stories and capturing honest moments.
From observer to storyteller.
I grew up on captivating stories of real people, from Lawrence of Arabia to Marie Colvin, which always gave me a deep appreciation for film, history and literature. I spent much of my youth as a daydreamer, gaining a keen eye for all around me, imagining the smallest human action as if it were in an arthouse movie.
After years of dabbling in video and editing work, something wasn’t clicking until I picked up a camera and took my first ever still photos - then it all changed.
There are a thousand ways to tell a story these days with all the technology at our disposal, but there is something that will always be mesmerising to me about capturing a single frame of another person’s life.
It is addictive and sometimes dangerous, and as a believer in truth, honesty and integrity, I found a deep appreciation for the work of the photographers and journalists in capturing those moments for the world to see & read, particularly in the times of today where everything is gone as quickly as it is given.
From then on, I knew it was where I had to be.
